Gullwing Battle Royale Storms Onto Amazon!

Gullwing Battle Royale is a no-holds-barred fighting tournament featuring the characters of "The Gullwing Odyssey". It’s a last-man-standing competition between a messenger, dragon, knight, wizard, princess, and a pirate. What's at stake? Money, prizes, and bragging rights – actually, just bragging rights, but they don’t know that yet. Anything goes and everything will. Magic, swords, pistols, dirty tricks – you name it – it’s all fair game as they battle to be the top fighter of 2014.

Available exclusively on Amazon, the first two e-books contain four exciting fights; the final volume comprises the action-packed semi-final and championship matches. All of them come with full-color character portraits and short biographies so you can see how the fighters measure up.

Best of all, they're only $0.99 apiece.

Synopsis
A case of mistaken identity sets a reluctant young man on a 16th century adventure spanning the globe. Hounded by pirates and embroiled in international intrigue, little does he know the fate of a civilization may rest upon his scrawny shoulders. Despite himself and quite by accident, he becomes the hero he strives not to be.

Inspiration, Perspiration, Collaboration, Caffeine

12/4/2014

I've experienced a perfect storm of inspiration, perspiration -- you ever write so much you break a sweat? -- collaboration, and caffeine. Glorious caffeine. In short, I've been crazy busy these past two months. Let's have a behind-the-scenes look.
Behind the R.A.G.E.
Picture
Fingertip hit keypad for the last time in mid-October, then came editing. The first draft of R.A.G.E. -- Roleplay Adventure Gaming Engine -- looked a bloody mess of red ink. It wasn't grammar or misspellings, it was the format.

Novels are quite different from manuals. Writing manuals is like trying to teach a classroom of students while blindfolded. You get no feedback as to whether your audience understands the information, so you have to break everything down to its basest level. You must assume your audience knows nothing on the subject. Making matters worse, you're writing in imperative address ("First you do this; then, do that..."), which takes some getting used to.

And then, of course, you have to organize this information in a way that makes sense.
Forgotten Spaces Revisited

Work on Forgotten Spaces got off to a running start on the heels of R.A.G.E.'s completion. Like The Alvarium Experiment, this book is also a collaborative work. I partnered up with Ramiro de Pereda, author of The Many Deaths of Cyan Wraithwate, and Steve Fonts.

Interesting bits of trivia: Steve is Brazilian (his name is actually Estêvão Magalhães Fonts) and Ramiro is over seventy years old. Any time we'd walk into someplace, I'd get the sinking feeling that someone was on the verge of making a joke: "Hey, did you hear the one about the old guy, the Brazilian, and the lawyer? Well, you just did -- look over there."

Fun times.
The Alvarium Experiment: ASensation In Collaboration

My contribution to this project came about in a bluster of inspiration. I banged out 4,000 words in two nights, working until three in the morning (witching hour!), and getting about three hours' sleep each night. Sleep and I have never been on speaking terms anyway.
